Newton hosted Caradon 2s yesterday for their second home match of the season. Newton started strong pushing up the pitch and putting pressure on Caradon's defence but Newton's early chances were kept out.

Caradon in turn moved quickly up the pitch but were also kept out by Jane Carr, Jenna Disbury and Sophie Gregory in the defence. The battle moved into the midfield with Nikki Hobbs, Harriet Ellis and player of the match Meg Smale linking up well, pushing Newton forward - however it was Caradon who struck first catching Newton off guard and taking the advantage heading into half time 1-0 to Caradon.

Newton unhappy with their first half performance came out fighting in the second half and took the game to Caradon, Nikki and Eleanor Manley burst forward early on with Eleanor having a shot tipped just over the bar. Newton kept up this momentum and continued to push at Caradon's defence looking for their goal. Newton kept the pressure up driving at Caradon's defence with Amber Varney (on her debut) having a shot blocked at close range. Newton kept peppering the goal but couldn't seem to get the ball over the line. It was Caradon, who against the run of play had a break up the pitch and secured their second of the match. Undeterred Newton kept pushing forward but it was not to be, ending the match 2-0 to Caradon, a frustrating loss for Newton but they look forward to next week.
