A well earned win!

Newton hosted Devonport 1s on Saturday and after a tough few weeks Newton were fired up and looking to secure a win.

Newton started strong pushing forward and putting pressure on Devonport’s defence almost immediately with Aimee Scott, Eleanor Manley and Mandy Isherwood linking up well to create some early chances for Newton which were blocked well by Devonport’s keeper.

Newton managed a sustained period of pressure from Devonport’s attack brilliantly, defending a number of short corners - letting nothing get past them. 👊

Newton responded with another attack building through the team with lovely link up play between player of the match Harriet Ellis, Frankie Thompson and Sophie Gregory culminating in Aimee slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner sending Newton into half time 1-0 up!

Coming out into the second half Newton wanted to maintain their performance and continue to create problems for Devonport. Newton started brightly once again pushing up and testing Devonport’s defence with Nikki Hobbs, Nancy Ellis and Mandy sending in some teasing balls.

Devonport were determined to find an equaliser and were pushing hard to try and break through but Newton were holding strong with the front line, midfield and defence all working hard to keep them out and break down their play - this resulted in a well earned three points for Newton with the game being ending 1-0! 🎉
