Last week Newton travelled to face up against Dart. The match got off to a quick start with Dart quickly asserting their dominance scoring two goals early on leaving Newton a mountain to climb. Despite being on the back foot, Newton refused to back down. Newton managed to score one of their own through Eleanor Manley and Aimee Scott capitalising on a defensive error, reducing Dart's lead to 2-1. This was a sign of Newton's fighting spirit, and the game began to take on a more balanced rhythm as the first half progressed with Harriet Ellis, Amber Varney and Nikki Hobbs battling in the midfield. Despite Newton's best efforts, shortly before half time Dart capitalised on a short corner bringing the score to 3-1 at half time.
Heading into the second half saw a determined Newton step up their defensive game reducing Dart's attacking opportunities, with Erin Pettican and Jenna Disbury linking up well to prevent Dart from adding to their tally, as well as Rosie Carpenter making some fantastic saves to keep Dart out.
As the match continued Newton's persistence paid off as player of the match Nancy Ellis stormed up the pitch breaking through Dart's defence and fired home Newton's second of the game. Dart were clearly shaken by the change in tempo from Newton and were hanging on as Newton began to pepper their D and goal with shots but time was against Newton and the score ended 3-2 to Dart. Another game well fought by Newton who were unlucky with the result.
