Kicking off with a win!

Newton kicked off the league today in the sun against Ashmoor 1s.

Newton started brightly, pushing forward straight from the whistle. Ashmoor held up well under pressure and made some key interceptions before player of the match Nikki was able to slot the ball past the keeper for her first of the game, quickly followed by her second! 🤩

Ashmoor responded with their own foray into Newton’s D but were swiftly dealt with by our dynamic defence Jane, Nancy and Shawna and some brilliant saves by Rosie. Newton kept up the pressure with Aimee, Erin and Cerys making some brilliant moves up the pitch before Cerys sent the ball into the back of the goal before halftime, sending Newton into the break 3-0 up!

Heading back out Newton wanted to maintain their intensity, they started brightly once again putting pressure on Ashmoor’s defence but it was Ashmoor who struck first earning themselves a goal on the break.

Unhappy with having conceded Newton upped the intensity and were soon rewarded as Aimee fired home. Newton continued to push for more and saw some excellent link up play between Erin and Ellen and Mandy, Eleanor and Nikki keeping the pressure high on Ashmoor before they were rewarded with Nikki’s third of the game and rounded off a great performance with Nancy firing home for Newton’s sixth! 😱

Finishing the game 6-1!
