On Saturday Newton hosted Falmouth in wet and windy conditions.
Newton started brightly, applying early pressure on the Falmouth's goal with Aimee Scott appearing to give Newton the lead before the goal was disallowed. Undeterred, Newton continued to push forwards, but not without challenge, with much of the first half characterised by the battle in midfield, with both teams fighting for control. Newton’s midfield worked tirelessly to break up play and launch attacks with Harriet Ellis, Nancy Ellis, Nikki Hobbs and player of the match Ellen Drew linking up well together to create chances, with a handful of shots drifting just wide. Newton's persistence paid off as they were rewarded with a short corner which was converted by Eleanor Manley calmly slotting the ball past the keeper.
Falmouth fought back with some forays into Newton's D but were kept out by Newton's defence and Rosie Carpenter in goal. Newton responded with renewed energy, earning another short corner and once again converting it, this time it was Nancy who found the back of the goal extending their lead to 2–0 by half-time.
The second half saw momentum shift as Falmouth pushed forward aggressively, forcing Newton onto the defensive. Newton’s back line held firm under sustained pressure, but Falmouth eventually broke through from a short corner, narrowing the score to 2–1 leading to a tense final few minutes, with Falmouth searching for an equaliser and Newton digging deep to protect their lead. However, it was Newton who came out on top as their disciplined defending saw them through to the final whistle, securing a hard-earned 2–1 victory.
