Newton travelled down to Plymouth today for their match against Ocean City 1s and were looking to secure their first points of the season after three very tight losses.

Newton started positively moving up the pitch and began to test OCs defence with Newtons initial shots being rebuffed before they earned themselves a short corner which Nikki Hobbs tipped over the line giving Newton an early lead!

Buoyed by this Newton continued to push forward looking for another with Sophie Gregory, Meg Smale and Aimee Scott linking up well together and causing problems for OC.

Ocean City had breaks of their own into Newtons D which were dealt with swiftly by Sara Ellis and Jenna Disbury meaning that Newton headed into half time 1-0 up.

Going into the second half Newton wanted to capitalise on their lead, knowing that Ocean City would be looking for a goal of their own. Newton once again pushed forward with Harriet Ellis, Mandy Isherwood and Nancy Ellis combining well in the centre, before Nancy ran down the width and found the goal from a tight angle to give Newton a 2-0 lead!

Newton continued to pepper OCs D but to no avail before OC launched their own attack in the dying minutes with player of the match Rosie Carpenter becoming a wall in the goal saving shot after shot!

The game finished 2-0 to Newton securing our first 3 points of the season
