Newton faced up against Exeter Yellow last night for their penultimate summer league game - they knew it was going to be a tough game as Exeter Yellows had also won all of their games so far.

Newton started well, absorbing the pressure from Exeter well and making some good runs up the pitch through Aimee Scott, Erin Pettican and Harriet Ellis. However, it was Exeter who were first to claim a goal - Newton fought back and were unlucky to have a goal ruled out just before the half time whistle.

Heading into the second half, Newton were determined to get on the scoresheet and almost equalised early doors with Eleanor Manley send the ball just wide of the post. Exeter recovered from this well and put Newton under a period of extended pressure with Newton's defence and keeper keeping them out. 💪

Newton got the ball out though and travelled down the pitch with excellent link up play between Nikki Hobbs, Frankie Thompson and Erin they got the ball into the D and this time Eleanor found the back of the goal and equalised for Newton!

Another period of pressure for Newton came again but Rosie Carpenter stepped up in goal and made some key saves for Newton! Newton continued to push on looking for that winning goal, but it was Exeter who managed it in the end, catching Newton on the break and finding that winning goal just before the final whistle - ending the game 2-1 to Exeter.

A strong performance by the whole team - we look forward to next week!
