We’re back!

Newton hosted Bodmin 1 today as they got back into action after the summer break, and were feeling a bit nervous for a new season in a new league. Both Newton and Bodmin started brightly with chances for both teams, but it was Bodmin that struck first and firmly swung the momentum in their favour scoring 3 goals in quick succession. Not to be beaten though, Newton managed to pull a goal back shortly before half time through Aimee Scott.

Heading into the second half Newton were determined not to go down without a fight and pushed forwards with Frankie Thompson opening the scoring early bringing the scoreline to 3-2. 💪

The game began to open up for both teams with the ball moving end to end. Newton’s midfield put in a huge shift both defensively and on the attack with some brilliant play from Mandy Isherwood, Nikki Hobbs and player of the match Harriet Ellis putting in key tackles and moving the ball up the pitch to create chances for Newton.

However, Bodmin managed to claim a goal back through a brilliant piece of solo play. Newton countered quickly though with Aimee’s second, and Newton’s third, of the game battling in front of goal to tip it over the line. Bodmin and Newton were both in search for another goal but were kept at bay by the respective defenders, ending the game 4-3 to Bodmin.

Whilst not the way we wanted to start the league the team can be really proud of their performance and mental resilience. 💖
