An important match today as Newton hosted Devonport 2s in the sunshine. Newton needed to win or draw today to secure promotion, Newton started brightly putting the pressure on Devonport’s defence but were held back some brilliant defence.

Newton had a bright moment though where they pounced on a stretched Devonport with  some brilliant passes, first from Harriet Ellis to Aimee Scott before Aimee sent it into the D for Eleanor Manley to finish off 😎

Newton continued to keep the pressure up as the game went end to end but Devonport were kept out by some fab defending and a brilliant save from Rosie Carpenter tipping it over the bar 🤯

Newton headed into half time 1-0 up and we’re hoping to continue their form into the second half.

Newton started the second half quickly with some brilliant passing across the midfield between Meg Smale, Mandy Isherwood and player of the match Nikki Hobbs building the pressure and keeping Devonport under pressure - Newton were soon rewarded as Nancy Ellis fired home from a short corner putting Newton 2-0 ahead!

Devonport were not to be kept down though and caught Newton napping scoring two goals in quick succession, Newton responded well though and kept their heads in the game looking for a winning goal which they were close to snatching. However,  2-2 will do and Newton secure promotion and their spot at the top of the league. 🎉🎉
