A top of the table clash!

Today Newton went up against Dart 2, who like Newton, have won every game of the season so far! 😱 Newton knew today would be difficult, but a win was key to remain at the top end of the league. From the start Newton had good possession of the ball around Dart's D with Harriet Ellis, Nancy Ellis and player of the match Nikki Hobbs linking up beautifully to put pressure on Darts resilient defence. Dart had their own foray into Newton's half but were kept at bay by Jenna Disbury, Charlotte Meakin and Sara Ellis. 💪

Despite some opportunities for both teams and a late chance for Eleanor Manley we went into half time 0-0.

Newton came out into the second half wanting to earn the win and the 3 points. Some lovely link up play from Mandy Isherwood, Aimee Scott and Frankie Thompson kept the pressure on Dart and Newton could feel that a goal was coming. Dart's defence were strong though and continued to rebuff Newton's efforts before Newton earned themselves a short corner and Mandy snuck one in off the back post, giving Newton a well deserved goal! 🤩

With 10 minutes of the match remaining Newton knew they had to work hard to retain their lead and the team dug deep to keep out Dart's attack. The game ended 1-0 to Newton and they secured another 3 points on the board! 🥳
