Newton started their summer league campaign this evening against Teign. Newton were a little bit nervous before the match having not had any training for a few months or played a proper match since March, but they started the game well and soon got into their rhythm.

The game was end to end with both teams having chances but it was Newton that struck first with Nancy Ellis finding the back of the goal! Lifted by this Newton continued to push forwards and soon found themselves 2-0 up after Eleanor Manley fired home following a great pass from Nikki Hobbs! Just before half time Teign nabbed themselves a goal, ending the half 2-1 to Newton.

Heading into the second half, Newton felt confident but knew Teign would come out fighting. Once again the game was end to end with Teign having the majority of chances, however, they were kept out by some fabulous saves from Rosie Carpenter-Manley in goal! 🤩

Newton responded by breaking quickly down the pitch and were soon pressuring Teign's defence and found themselves 3-1 up as Aimee Scott slotted a reverse shot into the goal! Two minutes from time Teign fired a rocket into the net of the goal, ending the game 3-2 to Newton.

Newton celebrated their win in the best way possible, with birthday cake in the carpark celebrating Aimee and Harriet's birthdays. 🎂
