For the final game of the season Newton travelled to play Kingsbridge and Salcombe 2s, despite having wrapped up the league last week Newton wanted to go out and end the season on a high with another 3 points.
Newton started on the front foot, pushing forward on the hunt for goals - K&S initially held Newton back with some strong clearances but some brilliant link up play from Harriet Ellis, Meg Smale and joint player of the match Mandy Isherwood saw Newton break through their defences resulting in Aimee Scott opening the scoring. This got Newton going and they were soon 3-0 up following two brilliant strikes from Nikki Hobbs before joint player of the match Nancy Ellis fired home for Newton's fourth of the game before half time.
Heading into the second half Newton were on the hunt for some more goals, K&S made this difficult though as they battled for every ball, however, it wasn't long before Newton broke through once again with Frankie Thompson slipping it through to Aimee Scott who sent the ball into the goal for her second of the game - this was quickly followed by a third from Aimee completing her hat trick in style as she finished from a tight angle. 😎
Despite waves of pressure from Newton, Kingsbridge and Salcombe kept Newton at bay for the remaining minutes of the match, ending the match 6-0 to Newton!
Newton finish this season on 110 goals scored, 11 conceded and promotion and top of the league secured - what a season for this team, celebrations well and truly deserved! 🤩🥳🩷
